More to follow after I get some more sleep and Mike and I figure out which way is up (so maybe you should check back in a couple of years). But in brief:
- Mother and baby are both well.
- After being very skeptical about whether I was capable of natural childbirth, I surprised myself by making it through the eleven and a half hours of labour and delivery without any pain relief.
- Dominic surprised me by coming out with one hand up beside his head – a surprise that has granted me an unhappy number of stitches.
- I still think marsupials and birds have it all over mammals in the birthing department, but my body has surprised me by what it is capable of enduring and how quickly it can transition from “incubator” to “milk factory”.
- Mike has not surprised me – he’s been calm, supportive, enthusiastic, and capable during and after the birth. For this, and for many other things, I am extraordinarily grateful.

Lisa! You are poster child for childbirth. I’ve never seen ANYBODY look so fantastic right after giving birth. Kudos, and congratulations. He looks so small. Wonder how small he’ll look at 16 (ha,ha,ha). Hope you and Mike find wonder and joy in this new phase, and hope you have postpartum happiness.

Congrats to you, Mike and Dominic – though the work did not fall equally on each of you. I am pretty sure that Mike, while inspiringly calm, had the easiest job.
Nice work on the announcement and photos. We will look forward to the Adventures of Dominic diary that will no doubt soon be arriving.

Welcome, baby Dominic! Congratulations Mike and Lisa! Mike, I’m at my parents’ and cleaning out my old stuff and found a stack of old letters… so amusing to read about times long ago. My “natural” baby smiled from birth and I’m certain you can count those as real smiles and not “just gas” as people say. Well done!

He looks perfect. Well done Lisa! Commiserations on the ‘high five’ birth position of Dominic – William did that to me, and I maintain that the stitching was worse than the labour! Anyway, our love snd prayers for this crazy first few weeks/months, for easy breastfeeding and realistic sleep expectations! xxx

Now you become a happy father with such a wonderful wife and a cute son? How many unbelievable things happened to you during these unbelievable 10 years? Life is full of miracles, under the grace of our amazing heavenly Father. Welcome to China, Beijing. There will be more miracles added to your already extrordinary life.
